I think everyone can agree, pizza is one of the most delicious foods. However, I don’t like all the calories and fat that come with a tradition pizza. This Hawaiian Pizza Salad is a lightened up version of my favorite pizza!

October is National Pizza Month, and the #SundaySupper taste makers are celebrating this week thanks to our wonderful host  The Red Headed Baker. Pizza is one of the favorite meals in my house, however, getting my boyfriend to eat a gluten free crust is difficult. Usually, that means ordering two separate pizzas. Not only is that expensive, but it makes me eat way more pizza than if I had someone to share with. This is why I decided to make a healthier version, because I don’t have to the self control to not eat the whole pizza and when I crush this whole salad I don’t feel nearly as guilty!

Fun Fact:

Hawaiian pizza was not actually invented in Hawaiian,  it was invented by a Greek man living in Canada. What inspired him to put pineapple on a pizza is beyond me, but I am sure glad he did. I thought it would taste gross for years, I still remember the first time I had it. Sitting in the school cafeteria during a long day of theater rehearsal. I took one bit and my pizza preferences were forever changed!

The key to this salad is the homemade dressing, using tomato and a touch of Parmesan in the dressing gives it all that yummy pizza flavor. This dressing is also great on side salads and makes for one yummy chicken marinade. I like to keep it in my fridge so when I’m craving pizza I can just whip up this salad really quick. I cut all my own veggies, but you could also use a bagged lettuce mix to make this dinner even quicker!

It took me years to change my opinion of this style of pizza. Dad used to order it all the time, but it wasn’t until later on when the hubs asked for it that I made my own and liked it. Not my fave, but it was pretty good when I made it from scratch. LOVE this salad idea, though.
