Oktoberfest #SundaySupper

For most people Oktoberfest in synonymous with one word: beer. I’ll have to admit I was one of those people for years. I figured, a holiday centered around beer? Count me in!

For brief period of my life I was a big beer drinker, something about drinking a cold beer in the shower after work was just so satisfying. When my boyfriend and I first moved in together we were living in a windmill, often decorated with beer cans. (Yes, don’t worry I judge myself for that too.) However, being gluten free I learned that Oktoberfest is actually about more than beer. There are so many great foods involved. This week the #SundaySupper Tastemakers are joining together to share the best foods for the holiday.

Oktoberfest Facts:

  • Oktoberfest typically lasts 16-18 days and actually begins in September, not October
  • Oktoberfest has been celebrated since the early 1800s
  • At the 100th Oktoberfest approximately 120,000 liters of beer were consumed
  • The parade on the first Sunday of Oktoberfest is one of the largest in the world, with about 8,000 participants
  • Almost 1,000 tons of rubbish are generated from Oktoberfest each year

Here’s a list of the recipes you can look forward to viewing this Sunday!
