Awful Awful’s are a classic Rhode Island food. These delicious milk shakes are the staple of an Ocean State summer, and now they’re gluten free and healthy!
Rhode Island Classic:
Now if you’re asking to yourself what the heck is an awful awful, then you’re clearly not a Rhode Islander. While an awful awful is essentially a milkshake it’s really just so much better than that, and can only be found at Newport Creamery. There are many flavors of awful awfuls, but the cookies and cream was the the signature on in my mind.
When I bought my Enjoy Life Crunchy Chocolate Cookies, I knew this is what I wanted to make. While cookies and cream typically means oreos, I think when you’re adding so much cream you can use any chocolate cookies you want! I made mine as a single serving but it is a very big serving. Because Awful Awful stands for Awful Big Awful Tasty, it needed to be big, but it’s definitely enough to share if you so choose.
I love adding vegetables to my desserts, as you’ve seen in many of my posts. For creamy frozen treats zucchini is my favorite, just like in my cookies and milk pie. I always keep frozen, peeled zucchini in my freezer for making smoothies creamy and delicious. I just threw them in the blender with some yogurt, almond milk, honey, and chocolate cookies and was suddenly transported to my middle school days of riding my bike to Newport Creamery.
