Another Whole30 day done. I’m proud of the self control I’m using, but I am beginning to doubt if I’m actually using the whole30 to eat healthier or not. In fact, I think I may be consuming more sugar than before. While natural sugar, yes, my go to snacks of larabars, dates, and fruits are all packed with sugar I’m wondering if maybe having some cottage cheese might be a better, more filling, option.
I went to family breakfast and started my day with some scrambled eggs, longingly starring at the chocolate chip muffins. After breakfast I had some macadamia nuts and dried figs. For lunch I had some BBQ pork using my Whole30 BBQ sauce. This new sauce is probably one of the highlights of my whole30. While I’m doubting if the paleo lifestyle will ever be one I follow, I know that this bbq sauce makes for a much healthier meal than my usual corn syrup based bbq sauce. Those types of food swaps I am going to try to keep after my whole30 is complete.
During the afternoon I did my usual grazing on some pecans and a handful of dates. For dinner I had some chicken on a bed of greens with lots of veggies. I found myself desperately wishing I could be indulging in the buttery corn along with the rest of my family.
Then came dessert, the hardest part. While every else had ice cream cones I ate a cashew cookie larabar. There is another food swap that is definitely healthier. Hands down a larabar is a better dessert choice than icecream. But during the course of the day I found myself eating so much fruit I wonder if it’s still too much sugar for my body.
In researching my decision to do a whole30, one thing I was excited about was the possibility of lessening acne. Almost everywhere says less refined sugars means less breakouts. We’ll exactly two weeks of no refined sugar and I’m still breaking out like a middle schooler.
Even though I’m doubting that I will have the big whole30 Ahah moment I’ve been reading about, I’m going to stick to it. Just over two weeks left and I know I can do this. I know afterwards I will definitely change my eating habits, but I think my diet seems more balanced with grains and dairy in it. I still believe in everything in moderation, except maybe white sugar I definitely don’t want to be eating that crap!
