I woke up on day five of my whole30 feeling great! It could be the whole30 diet kicking in or that I was going to meet my new baby nephew for the first time. I’m going to say it was both. So far this was my most energized day yet I felt great all day and didn’t crash once! While at least during the day, staying up to celebrate New Years Eve I got tired but I’m not used to staying up that late now. Must be getting old!
I had such a busy morning that I actually forgot about breakfast which was not the best way to start my day. So I had a larabar, seriously I can’t get enough of them, and some celery and carrot sticks. Then around 10:30 I had two pieces of prosciutto.
I actually only had one lunch today but it was larger then usual so kept me full longer. Surprisingly it didn’t even have any meat in it! This was another meal donation from my neighbor. Mashed butternut squash topped with some broccoli slaw. The contrast of the textures and temperatures in this was so satisfying!
I had a mid day snack of a 100 calorie pack of almonds and walnuts. While I’m not one for counting calories I do sometimes find portioned snacks prevent me from over eating. Plus they’re handy to keep in my purse for days when I go out and am not sure if there will be anything I can eat. I can say I stood next to a giant bowl of candy and ate nothing but my pack of nuts; this self control thing is getting even easier.
For dinner I had the most delicious whole30 dinner I’ve had so far. We just built a new fire pit in our back yard and decided New Years Eve would be the perfect night to grill out. A nice ribeye steak, charred carrots, and red onion, so wonderful! And I really didn’t have to think twice about this dinner. I am finding on whole30 that a lot of my favorite choices are already whole30 friendly which is part of what makes this program so easy for me to stick to.
I knew I would be staying up later than usual tonight, so I planned ahead. I made a “dessert” with some chia seeds, coconut milk, mashed banana, and cinnamon. While not a huge chia seed fan this definitely satisfied my sweet tooth. And because the texture isn’t my favorite I ate just a few bites to curb my sweetness craving and put the rest away for later.
As part of New Years Eve I knew I would definitely drink a bit of red wine. Which is part of the reason I’m allowing small amounts during my whole30, so I wont get discourage when I indulge. I am proud to say I had one glass of nice red wine poured a second at midnight had just a few sips and called it a night. I’d say that is a successful New Years Eve in my book! Here’s to starting the 2016 and continue on to more whole30 success!
